One week later...

One week and a day later...feeling pretty good!

So a week ago Tuesday I donated my kidney to my Mom.  The operation was a great success!  Within minutes my kidney was functioning wonderfully for my Mom!  The Dr's were amazed at how well the kidney was working! :)

So a week later we are both doing great.  My pain level has been minimal but I can sense some real pain now just because the local anesthetic is waring off after a week.  I had something called On Q which was put into the wound area to give a continuous flow of pain relief.  Let me tell you...that thing kept my side completely numb up until yesterday.  The numbness is still present but not as much...so I have had to add a little more pain meds (percoset) into my day.  I had cut them way back just because the pain was not present due to the On Q.

My Mom tells me that she can now eat things that she wasn't allowed to before...and something she told me today just made me fly off!  LOL  They told her she could drink dark sodas now...but diet only!  WHAT!? Why even suggest soda?  It has something to do with phosphorous which she is apparently to low on...so they suggest stuff that is unhealthy to bring it up?  I found a list of healthy foods that my mom likes and told her some other options that are not soda or other processed crap that they may have suggested.  Good grief....the ignorance in the health field just frightens me!

And as for me...I am continuing my primal nutrition and am attempting my hand at creating a small primal style cookbook.  I have so many ideas in my head....I just have to contain them and get them written down.  LOL

Being a donor has really given me a new outlook...if you have any questions about it please let me know and I will share whatever I know and have experienced from it.  :)

I would also like to invite you to make a donation or even start your own team (or join mine) for the National Kidney Foundation 2010 Kidney Walk.  My team is called United Forever and we will be participating in the Richmond VA walk on November 7th.  I am very grateful that organizations like this exist...if they didn't my Mom probably would not have qualified for the surgery.
